Year Four - What Is Happiness

In February 2009, Multistory, a community arts organisation based in Sandwell, were contracted to deliver an innovative arts & health project entitled What is Happiness?

Multistory worked with seven diverse community groups in each of the four Black Country areas.   During the Summer of 2009 the groups explored what happiness means to different people.  These ‘stories’ were then transferred onto pre-fabricated cardboard play houses using a variety of visual artforms.  The houses were brought together to create an estate of ‘Happiness Houses’, which were exhibited at The   Public in West Bromwich during October and November 2009.  They are also to be toured to a number of other venues in the Black Country during 2010.

Participants also created a ‘Happiness Map’ of the Black Country.  Alongside the workshops, a text, email and postcard campaign was run to enable people to submit their stories or ideas of  happiness.  All the responses have contributed to a virtual Happiness Map at: www.multistory.org.uk/happiness.   The stories and responses give a fascinating insight into what makes people from across the Black Country happy.

Evaluation for the project is a collection of case studies, which contain full details of the project, together with the outcomes met.  Click on the links below to download the documents you wish to read.
