Meet the Artist

Meet the Artist was the culmination of a series of three events for employers, linked to the Artist Professional Development Programme in Arts and Health in 2009. They attracted mostly commissioners who had offered employment opportunities as part of the course (there were 14 of these in total), but were open to others. Participants explored the development of a checklist of good practice containing expectations from Commissioners, the University and Students.
| Another aim was to bring commissioners and students together and Meet the Artist was very successful in achieving this, improving networking and communication between the two. The purpose of the day was for artists to meet commissioners to talk about their experience, show examples of work and discuss whether they would be suitable for any future projects. For commissioners it was an opportunity to exchange contact information and publicise their service, programme or projects directly to artists. The session was held in a 'speed dating' format, where commissioners sat in an inner circle with artists facing them. Every five minutes a bell would sound and the artists had to leave their seats and move to the next person. Everyone was armed with a snapshot of information about themselves and their work and swapped business cards, mini portfolios and other useful information. The feedback from the event was extremely positive. |

It is hoped that more of these type of events can be organised in future. Notes from the event, which include a list of delegates and some evaluation results from the day are available here.
